Step One:
Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered ... whatever you're comfortable with) to your journal/blog. The post should contain your list of 10 wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love an icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for [holiday] is a new car/computer/house.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or whatever) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your journal so that the joy will spread.
Step Two:
Surf around your dwircle/friendslist (or network/friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's fairy godthingy--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just ... wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's [unit of time] special.
1. Vidding software for PC--something better than glitchy glitchy Windows Movie Maker. I'm going to experiment with trial versions of other things once I get hold of a new vid-capable computer, but if you happen to have a program that you like but are not using or would not mind sharing with me by disc or download, I would be truly really very grateful.
2. Music mixes/playlists--I like music! And I enjoy and am always fascinated by the process of composing mixes & playlists & stuff. Brand new shiny mixes for me or for everybody or links to existing mixes you already like are all appreciated, especially if they include entertaining or informative liner notes.
3. Other fandomy stuff--fic or vids or icons or art or recs or whatever. If you follow me here or have seen my collection on AO3 you probably have a pretty good idea of what I like (there's also the Five Acts wishlist a few posts back to give you more clues), but you can comment here if you want specific prompts or requests.
4. Movie or tv recs--stuff that is good that you want someone to squee over with or that you think would be up my alley, or stuff that'd be good vidding source for the updated and improved next version of that big kink-in-media/media-in-kink project thing that I want to make (also, suggestions of what to do with it). Even better if you save me the work of finding whatever it is by loaning or gifting me dvds or access to a download or streaming location, especially if it's hard to track down otherwise, but of course that's not mandatory.
5. Jersey cotton sheets--the kind that feel like soft t-shirts. Some people don't like them because they're easy to get tangled up in (bug or feature? sometimes the line is mighty fine) but I've liked them when I've tried them and I want a set for home. My mattress is a double (and kind of crappy, if you happen to be able and willing to replace that too . . . unlikely).
6. Sundry travel assistance--not, like, plane tickets or anything (though that would be awesome), but open-ended offers of places to stay or a meal or just some local guidance in faraway places (I'm a clean and courteous houseguest and a cheap date and I generally don't bite unless it's been negotiated!) or of short road trips with people who live nearerby to shake up the restlessness would make me feel extra loved. Alternatively, you could come visit me and let me show you cool stuff where I live, cuz I like doing that too.
7. Employment--seriously. Need paying work rather desperately. Even just knitting commissions or little editing or transcription/data entry type projects, though if you've got an 'in' on something more stable or could help me get a job at Come As You Are (applying again this week) or wherever that'd be sweet too.
8. Thesis help--cheerleaders, company for in-person or skype/google talk work dates, people who can talk (particular and general) theory with me, alpha and beta readers once I start turning out shareable work, qualitative data analysis or referencing software . . . I've really got to get the reins back on this elephant before it runs away completely.
9. Toys--like, clean or cleanable floggers & canes & stuff that you're not using that I maybe might, particularly if it will not set off those pesky nickel allergies? Or yarn, though I already have a lot of that. I dunno. It's hard to think of ten things. Probably I should have broken up some of the others and made them more specific.
10. More people to participate in this meme, and to come out to the Popular Culture Association nerdparty in April.
Note: I will also gladly hear proposals of trades or sales of goods/gift credit for money or labour (knitting, editing, etc.) in place of outright gifts, and if you want to know where/how to deliver something for me in meatspace PM me or comment for address.
